Go to the left side of the tab and click the add chart element down arrow. I'll click the chart design contextual tab.
That gives me access to the chart design and format contextual tabs. If I want to see how much room nights will change as time goes by based on my current data, I can do that by creating a trend line. On the right side of the worksheet, I have a line chart that displays the data that we already have. It's just room nights rented for the Cambridge Rooms for the years 2013, 20. Join Dennis Taylor for an in-depth discussion in this video, Analyze existing and projected data with trendlines, part of Excel for Mac 2016: Charts in Depth. Rather than do it yourself, you can have Excel do it for you and draw a trend line in your chart to illustrate its result. The math to calculate those future values isn't that hard to do, but it's really tedious. After clicking the plus (+) icon found on the upper-right side of the chart, click the right arrow beside ‘Trendline’ and choose ‘More Options’ from the dropdown list.
After you've collected a set of data, such as the number of room nights rented over a course of several years, you can make projections about how that number will change if the current trend continues. If you would like to add a specific type of trendline, you’ll have to take it a step further.
